from/to Windhoek covering most of Namibia’s tribes and ethnic groups based mainly in the central or northern part of the country.

Africa, what a mystic sounding name for a continent which hides so many mysteries within the name and our imagination. With Tribal Namibia, Unique Tours & Safaris wants to take you to some of these mystic secrets and introduce you to some of Southern Africa’s cultures, like San, Mafwe, Owambo, Himba and Damara offering you many an extension possibility to enjoy game viewing and birding as well, but the main weight is based on some of the tribes and their cultures.


Upon arrival at Windhoek’s International Hosea Kutako Airport, you take over your rental vehicle and depart for Namibia’s capital Windhoek.
Your camping accommodation is based just outside the first suburb of Windhoek while your B&B accommodation is situated within Klein Windhoek.
Enjoy some sightseeing in town or visit the first cultural spot in town, the craft centre where you can admire the lovely wooden and stone crafts of local craftsmen.

In Okahandja you have the opportunity to see the Herero people when it comes to their traditional day in August.
On the last weekend before 26 August the Herero celebrate the arrival of a steam train in Okahandja carrying the coffin of one of their chiefs, Chief Samuel Maharero. Samuel Maharero had fled the country after the massacre at the Waterberg and lived in exile until his death. He was then brought back to Namibia to be buried. Every year the Herero dress up, the men in a military stile uniform and the women in colourful uniform like dresses, to visit their chief’s graves and pay homage. (Alternative: Zeraua day in Omaruru). If you are not in time for this experience you can either do some historical investigation in the grave yards or proceed to Waterberg for some game viewing instead.

Leaving Okahandja behind your road takes you north via Otjiwarongo, Otavi and Grootfontein to your next destination based 45 km north of Grootfontein.
The lodge you stay in is beautifully situated in a small oasis within wild farm lands On the second day of your stay you depart for a 3/4 day experience with the Ju/’Hoansi-San. While visiting the Living Museum you learn how to make your own jewelry, hunt and shoot bow and arrow, be lead into another world by their traditional dancing and healing. Making and tasting traditional food and many an experience more.
Grootfontein- Otjozondjupa Region

Leaving the bushmen behind you are heading straight for the next tribe in northern Namibia the Owambo.
Your lodge is situated near the town of Ondangwa within an Owambo Village Join the lodge on an activity learning to weave baskets, brew bear and much more. Additionally you can dive into history and do an optional visit to a local museum of the missionaries. From Ondangwa you can extend your tour either towards the  Zambesi or visit Etosha National Park.

From Ondangwa your route takes you towards Opuwo, the capital of the Kaokoland region. Driving towards Opuwo a visit to the Ruacana falls is an optional extension.
On day two you join the lodge on a visit to a local Himba village to learn more about the traditions of these nomads who call themselves the “Ochre People”

Leaving Opuwo another extension possibility lies ahead. Before you turn south to reach your next scheduled highlight at Twyfelfontein you can also turn north and spend some time at the Kunene River close to the Epupa Falls.
Reaching Twyfelfontein many a sightseeing highlight is awaiting you. Pay a visit to the Petrified Forest, Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain as well as the first world heritage site of Namibia the ancient rock engravings and rock paintings of Twyfelfontein. Seeing that this trip is all about cultures and tribes you also have the possibility of paying an optional visit to the Living Museum of the Damara to learn more about their habits and skills.
Twyfelfontein – Kunene Region

DAYS 11 AND 12

Township TourTwyfelfontein - Swakopmund
After all these days of cultural meetings it is now time to relax a little before you short excursion to Namibia comes to an end. Travelling south you pass the Brandberg with the famous White Lady bushman painting (Optional extension) Reaching the coast you can pay a visit to the biggest Cape Fur Seal colony along the Southern African Coast at Cape Cross.
If this is of no avail to you head south for Swakopmund, Namibia’s most favourite holiday destination. During your two night stay in Swakopmund you will join a township tour in the afternoon to experience how cultures mix and live in towns.
Many other activities are available in and around Swakopmund but should advisably be pre-booked to secure your participation.

DAY 13

MeteoritesSwakopmund - Windhoek/Departure
It is almost impossible but yet true.
The scheduled tour has come to an end and it is time to return to Windhoek for your departure flight in the late afternoon.
If you do not feel like going home yet you can extend with visits to the south including Sossusvlei and even go as far as Luederitz or the Fish River Canyon. We will gladly assist you with the planning.
If this times visit has come to an end you could gather first impressions and dream of more alternative routes experiencing Namibia’s lovely scenery and tremendous wildlife
