Okonjima Lodge
Not only is Okonjima a luxury lodge, but it is also home to The AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organisation, committed to long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores, especially cheetahs and leopards. Okonjima is halfway between Windhoek and Etosha National Park, West of the Waterberg Plateau Park. Okonjima is a Herero name meaning Place of the baboons. The Villa, Bush Suite & Bush Camp also have an inside fireplace and each have a waterhole where wildlife may be viewed.
The Villa and Bush Suite boast ‘ozoneated pools’, where ultra violet light is used to keep the pool clean instead of chemicals or chlorine.
THE VILLA, overlooking a natural waterhole, is situated in a secluded wilderness area approximately 10 km from our Main Camp. It has 2 separate, private Suites, together with 2 select, en-suite bedrooms. All bathrooms have both an inside shower and a spectacular, outside bush-shower, together with a beautiful bath-with-a-view.
The graceful ‘Main House’ consists of an Up-to-date, chef-designed kitchen with wine and soft drink coolers. The living spaces are punctuated by a spacious lounge and dining area with an open, wood-burning fireplace. There is a magnificent infinity pool, surrounded on three sides by African, red teak decking and a walkway to an open, shaded ‘Sala’ - for some serious birding and afternoon napping - incorporating a roof fan to stir the gentle breeze that crosses the adjoining waterhole. 2 separate, exquisite, thatched Suites situated approximately 35m – 50m on either side of ‘The Main House’ are completed by a well-stocked mini bar in each Suite. Fittingly, 3 of the 4 bedrooms have magnificent, wheeled, king size beds, for rolling out onto the terraces to sleep under the stars.
The Bush Suite, overlooking a waterhole, nestled in the open Acacia thornveld with the sandstone Omboroko Mountains in the background, is situated in a secluded wilderness area approximately 3,5km from Main Camp and 500m from Bush Camp. It has 2 separate, private, en-suite bedrooms under a magnificent thatched roof. The interior consists of a modern, chef-designed kitchenette, with wine and soft drink coolers. The living space boasts a spacious lounge, a dining area under-roof or outside under natural shade and an open, wood-burning fireplace as well as a uniquely designed pool (13 metres in length). One of the queensize beds can be wheeled outside onto the terraces, for a night under the stars! Each bathroom has both an inside shower and a spectacular, outside bush-shower, together with a beautiful, colonial, bath-with-a-view.
The Luxury Bush Camp is Situated at the Edge of a Wilderness Area, 3km from Main Camp. Bush Camp comprises of 8 thatched, African-style chalets, 3 luxury, en-suite tents and a Lapa in the form of the indigenous ‘camelthorn’ pod and a secluded swimming pool. In front of each chalet, a birdbath is visited by a variety of birds and small mammals.
The extensive ‘camelthorn’ shaped Lapa, encompasses the reception area and curio-shop, a cozy lounge with a rustic, inside fire-place, an outside fire-place, a kitchen and dining area – all overlooking a waterhole.
Main Camp was the original Hanssen-family farmhouse, reconstructed as a lodge in 1993. All 10 double rooms are situated around a lush garden and overlook the open-fire entertainment area.
The Private Campsite includes 2 private, open-air showers (incl. hot water),
2 private open-air, flush toilets, a washing-up area under a roof and a viewpoint for sundowners. Okonjima will provide fire wood.
Activities: AFRICAT became internationally renowned after featuring in an award-winning documentary filmed for the Discovery Channel in 1995 &1996. Namibia is home to the world’s largest wild/free-ranging cheetah population; the majority of this country’s cheetahs and leopards can be found on approximately 7000 commercial farms. These large carnivores occasionally prey upon the livestock that roam unprotected in the veld. As a result, carnivores are often regarded as vermin by the livestock and game-farming community and are deliberately trapped and/or killed. AfriCat has had to take on a large number of captive cats / carnivores no longer wanted by other establishments. Among the carnivores being rescued, researched and rehabilitated by AfriCat are cheetah, leopard, lion, caracal, wild dog and hyaena. Today The AfriCat Foundatiuon is the ‘World’s Largest Cheetah and Leopard Rescue and Release Programme’ and has saved more than 850 cats since 1993.
LEOPARD VIEWING: Leopards are frequently seen, giving you an opportunity to observe these magnificent predators from a hide, or ‘radio-tracked’ from our game-viewing vehicles. The leopards roam freely and catch their own prey within the 4500 ha rehabilitation area. These cats however, are notoriously people-shy and sightings are not guaranteed.
THE CHEETAH PROJECT: Offers you a valuable insight into the welfare work of The AfriCat Foundation.
CHEETAH TRACKING ON FOOT: You are invited to participate on foot in the radio-tracking of the rehabilitated cheetahs on the Cheetah Tracking Trail.
BUSHMAN TRAIL: Experience a day in the life of a Bushman. It constitutes an easy walking trail and is highly informative. You get to learn about the art of making traditional artefacts and how the San adapt and survive in an unforgiving wilderness environment.
NATURE TRAIL: Self-guided walking trails of up to 8 km, for those of you who want to spend some time alone in the solitude of the Okonjima wilderness.
BIRD WATCHING: Identify some of the more than 250+ species in the area, including some of the Namibian endemics – Carp’s Black Tit, Hartlaub’s Francolin and the Damara Rock Runner.
NOCTURNAL ANIMALS: Main Camp & Bush Camp guests only! At the nocturnal hide you may view after-dinner 'Nightlife' such as porcupine, honey-badgers and caracal, amongst others.
SWIMMING: Guests are welcome to make use of the pool at any time of the day or night. All camps have their own swimming pool.
PHOTOGRAPHY: With the abundance of animals and bird life and spectacular scenery, Okonjima is a photographer’s paradise. Be sure to take plenty of film and memory cards!! Photographers take note: Due to the specific nature of our rehabilitation project – all free roaming cats on OKONJIMA are radio-collared. All cats that are part of AfriCat’s Welfare Project are not radio-collared.

Rooms are laid out as air-conditioned chalets, which offer privacy, space and comfort. With its well kept garden and large swimming pool, Otjibamba is the ideal place to relax for a day or two. Dornhügel Guestfarm
The Dornhügel Guest Farm lies 42 km east of Grootfontein, ideally situated on the way to the unspoiled Bushman's Land or to the tropical Caprivi Strip. Also the Etosha Pan, the Hoba Meteorite and many other different places (really) worth a visit are within easy reach.
At Dornhügel you stay in 2 Single- or 3 Double en-suite rooms all comfortable and with a beautiful surrounding. The owners can provide additional children's beds when required. Optional activities offered are: Game drives in open cars, game watching from raised hides/blinds, hiking on marked tracks, swimming and relaxing at the pool, playing tennis, open-air chess, target shooting with air gun or cross bow, battledore and shuttlecock, croquet playing, star gazing by telescope

Ghaub Guestfarm
Guest Farm Ghaub was once considered one of Namibia's best kept secrets. Located in the Otavi mountain range 450 Kilometres north of Windhoek near Tsumeb, Ghaub is steeped in history as it was founded as a German Lutheran mission station in 1895. Ghaub was converted into a lodge while retaining much of the original character and design. Today it provides a spacious 10 twin room facility in a beautiful setting. The views from the veranda of each room are stunning and quite unique in this part of Namibia. Guests enjoy the home style cooking on offer and the friendly atmosphere that exists from attentive welcoming staff. Activities include nature and farm drives, horse riding trails through the hills, mountain biking, guided mountain hikes and caving. The Ghaub cave is of particular interest to enthusiasts and is recognised as a national treasure. With more than 2.5 Kilometres of passageways and corridors it is also popular with day visitors. There is a large working farm attached to the lodge where guests can visit and experience local farming methods and lifestyle. Bird watching is another popular activity and the range and species of birds in the immediate area of the Lodge is regularly commented on by avid bird watchers.
The Hoba meteorite is close by and can be included on a scenic mountain drive towards Kombat.

(Please note: Officially, Ghaub Guestfarm is located in the most south-eastern corner of the Oshikoto Region. We decided to feature it under the Otjozondjupa Region, since the farm constitutes the very centre of the Otavi Triangle and is situated much closer to Kombat, Grootfontein and the Hoba Meteorite than to the eastern Etosha area.

Ohange Lodge
A central communal Lodge building with a nearby pool and terrace, and private rustic mountain huts dotted around the area, each with panoramic views over the mountains and the Lodge's waterhole.
Wild animals frequently wander into the camp to drink at the waterhole, to investigate the inhabitants, reciprocating their stares, and grazing lazily amongst the trees. You find yourself sitting around a blazing camp fire, sipping a refreshing drink or enjoying a sumptuous meal, and glowing inside and outside.
Situated 28km north of Otavi in the heart of the Otavi Mountains, Ohange Lodge is a mountain retreat shaded by large Marula and Tamboti trees, overlooking a landscape as breathtaking as it is peaceful. "Ohange" is derived from the Herero word "peace".
The huts are spaced between the shady trees for privacy but linked by paved and lighted footpaths to the central Lodge and swimming pool. In the character of traditional African huts they are pleasantly cool during the day and warm at night due to their construction of substantial plastered stone walls and thatched roof.
Optional activities offered are game drives, nights drives and guided hikes.

Roy’s Camp
Roy’s Rest Camp is only a small part of the farm Elandslaagte, which consumes a space of 2800ha in total. Roy’s Rest Camp was started in 1995 and was built for Cattle Farming and Tourism as the main industries. Elandslaagte is one of the oldest farms in the district of Grootfontein, and has been here since 1930. It belonged to the Alberts family and originated from the Dorslandtrek.
At ideal stop over to Northern Namibia, Caprivi and Bushmanland. There are 5 standard rooms and 2 family rooms all with en-suite facilities and private braai areas. Bungalows are of unique rustic designs and have air-conditioning and mosquito nets. The lodge also offers 12 camp sites with braai facilities and hot water at the ablution block and bush kitchen, within walking distance of the swimming pool and dining area. Also available are walking Trails for bird watching and game watching. You can also visit the Traditional San (bushmen) village about 86km from Roy’s Camp.

Aloe Grove Safari Lodge
Aloe Grove Safari Lodge is situated 36kms north-east of Otjiwarongo, in the middle of a private game park. Sited some 1,630m above sea level, the 360º view over the vast savanna and the Waterberg Plateau, affords magnificent views. The name Aloe Grove, originates from the abundant 'Aloe literalis' growing in the area, which belongs to the tree family Aloe, easily identified by its magnificent burnt-orange flowers. At the end of a hard day's drive or activities, the sparkling pool is the place to go for a well-earned dip, sunbathe or cool drink. Their superb cuisine also caters for vegetarians and vegans, and their excellent dining facilities include an open fireplace, and an outdoor braai area, ideal venues for breakfast and dinner. (Lunch must be pre-booked.) To complement the dining experience, the lodge offers several excellent South African wines.
Accommodation consists of 6 en-suite bungalows, each with its own balcony. There are 3 rooms with 1 double bed and 1 single bed, and the other 3 rooms have self-catering facilities, with 2 double beds. Each room has its own bathroom, mosquito nets, and a big half-round bath and shower. There is also a fully-equipped kitchen with in-door wood barbecue. A great favourite at Aloe Grove Safari Lodge is the scheduled lion, leopard and cheetah feeding. Guests can also join the lodge's ranger on a 4x4 morning or afternoon game drive. Bird watching can be done from the comfort of the bungalow, with the view onto the waterhole, providing ample occasions for ornithologists. The fitter and more energetic might prefer to venture out on a guided hiking trail, in and around the lodge.

Babson House
The Cheetah Conservation Fund welcomes overnight visitors to its new Babson House which accommodates up to six guests in luxurious and spacious surroundings. In a style reminiscent of the 1940s colonial comfort so admired in 'Out of Africa', guests enjoy sundowners on a private veranda overlooking the ever-changing colours of the spectacular Waterberg Plateau with 'Chewbaaka', CCF's ambassador cheetah, as their next-door neighbour.
Stay 2 nights at the Babson house and your program would be: You arrive in time for lunch at 13h00. After check in at the Babson house, you meet the staff and enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon a guided walk through the Education Centre allows you to learn about cheetahs, its habitat and issues of conservation. In the late afternoon you drive to the Little Serengeti.

Frans Indongo Lodge
At Frans Indongo Lodge, you can relax on the sundeck at the swimming pool and watch a succession of Sable Antelope, Black Springbok and Nyala quench their thirst at the nearby water hole. Relish the special African atmosphere: the lodge and the interior decoration feature stylish traditional elements from the Ovambo culture in northern. Watch Cheetah sprinting and learn more about the fastest terrestrial animal on the planet at the nearby Cheetah Conservation Fund. Observe hundreds of vultures spiralling down from the sky – at the feeding site of the Rare and Endangered Species Trust which works for the protection of Namibia’s last Cape vultures. Or explore Waterberg Plateau Park, where water is plentiful, and visit the OvaHerero cultural centre in Okakarara.
While staying at the lodge you will also experience purest nature, of course. The 170 km² farm boasts an extraordinary abundance of game, including White and Black Rhino, Black Wildebeest and Hartebeest. Guides take you game-viewing on sundowner drives. For active guests there are trails which meander through the bush savannah and lead onto a hill with a magnificent look-out point. Frans Indongo Lodge is located north-east of Otjiwarongo and north-west of Waterberg Mountain. The luxurious character of the lodge is complemented by the interior decoration and colour scheme of the 2 double rooms, 2 Family units and 8 generously proportioned chalets. All the rooms have their own bathroom, air-conditioner, fridge, hairdryer, telephone, TV and an electric kettle for tea and coffee. The lush green garden is shaded by tall trees and sports an artificial brook. You can have a refreshing dip into the swimming pool, and when the sun starts to set just before dinner you can retreat to the large wooden veranda at the bar or the little observation tower. Both are fabulous places for savouring the enchanting hour of dusk - and keeping an eye on the watering place which is illuminated at night. The gourmet kitchen whips up a variety of venison dishes served with farm-fresh vegetables and salads seasoned with aromatic ingredients from our herb garden.

Waterberg Guestfarm
Waterberg Guest farm, a substantial part of the famous Waterberg is situated on the ranch with accommodation facilities built on the slope of the Small Waterberg. True to their slogan ‘A Fine Taste of Africa’, Waterberg Guest Farm is a small guest farm on a huge 50 thousand hectare game and cattle farm offering a distinguished ambience and hospitality to perfection. Animals can be viewed by sitting in one of the many elevated hides located at various waterholes around the ranch. Alternatively, take a seat on our wooden deck at the pool, which looks onto a waterhole 80 meters into the bush. Different species of animals visit this waterhole throughout the day. Waterberg Guest Farm offers 4 comfortably furnished rooms and two bush bungalows, all with their own bathrooms. A lounge with a fireplace and selection of books await each guest for the cold winter nights. Supper is served either in the thatched roof “lapa” under the starry skies of Africa or in the dining room with an exquisite view onto the (Big) Waterberg. Only home cooked meals are served, prepared from own organic farm produce. In the afternoon guests are treated with coffee and tea. Next-day activities and excursions are discussed in the evening. Afterwards you may want to join a guide on a drive on the ranch, combined with a sundowner at one of our dams or water holes.

Waterberg Plateau Park
Waterberg Plateau Park is a national park in central Namibia encompassing the Waterberg Plateau, 68 km east of the town of Otjiwarongo. The plateau and some 405 km² of surrounding land were declared a Nature Reserve in 1972 and is largely inaccessible so in the early 1970s several of Namibia's endangered species were translocated there to protect them from predators and poaching to extinction. The programme was very successful and Waterberg now supplies other Namibian parks with rare species. In 1989, Black Rhino were reintroduced to the area from Damaraland. The rest camp in the Waterberg Plateau Park was refurbished and now boasts 2 Family Chalets, 8 Premier Bush Chalets and 23 Bush Chalets as well as 34 Double Rooms all newly furnished with a relaxing atmosphere. Morning and afternoon game drives onto the plateau are offered on an optional basis. Hiking trails through a splendour of vegetation can keep you occupied for days.

Waterberg Wilderness Lodge
The rugged massif of Waterberg towers majestically over a vast, sunlit meadow at the end of an elongated valley. This is the site of Waterberg Wilderness Lodge, with red sandstone chalets scattered idyllically in a very old garden. The open pavilion next to the bricked-in basin of spring water where giant bamboo casts its cooling shade is a place to linger. Waterberg Wilderness Lodge consists of 9 spacious rooms, including two family units. Each of them has its private shower/WC, lounge area and roofed veranda or terrace. Before you set off on your afternoon activities everyone gets together in the tea garden for a cup and some cake. Bookworms can retire to our small library where a fire will be lit on chilly days. There are also two spring water swimming pools with sunbathing lawn and pavilion at your disposal. After sunset guests meet at the campfire or at the fireplace in the bar to settle down for the evening. Fresh dishes, typical for the country, are served by our farm cuisine for dinner. For activities at Waterberg Wilderness Lodge you can optionally choose from morning plateau hikes, game watching on foot, nature drives as well as a cultural tour into Hereroland.
