This page presents tough all-terrain adventure safaris into extremely remote parts of Namibia's Namib Desert and Kunene Region. They are conducted as guided self-drive safaris - you drive your own 4x4, with a specialised guide in a separate vehicle leading the way.

These safaris require prior experience in off-road driving and will put even solid 4x4 driving skills to the test. They will likewise test your vehicle's performance limits. These are not "Sunday excursions for pocket-sized RUVs" but require the work-horse qualities of fully fledged four-wheel-drive off-road vehicles.

Apart from 4x4 capabilities, some tours make it advisable for your vehicle to be equipped with some extras, like e. g. additional spare wheels, long-range fuel tank, and winch.
You definitely need to carry full camping equipment, as there are no accommodation facilities in the remote areas visited.
 

In order to participate in any of these guided self-drive off-road adventures you do have to own the 4x4 vehicle taken on tour!
Insurance policies of third parties involved will usually not provide cover. There is absolutely no insurance cover available from vehicle rental companies.
You should get clearance from your own motor vehicle insurer that cover is in place for any possible claim scenario arising from your participation in such tours.

This adventure takes place in the Namib Desert between Lüderitz and Walvis Bay formerly known as "Diamond Area no 2".
Places visited en route include Saddle Hill, Spencer Bay, Meob Bay, Conception Bay & Sandwich Bay. Desert wildlife, spectacular scenery, untouched beaches, abandoned mining settlements, miles of sand driving and shipwrecks are some of the attractions along the way.

While trying to avoid – wherever possible – the often badly corrugated main roads the operator prefers to use the lesser known trails and roads off the beaten track. In bygone days many of these roads were used by geologists, police and nature conservation officials, and are often not even found on topographic maps. Many of the areas visited are still untouched and you can enjoy a diversity of free ranging game amidst beautiful landscapes. Some of these areas are so remote, that lodges are few and far between, thus bush camping is the only option.
It is possible, however, to adapt the route to include the few lodges available, which requires compromising on how deep into Kaokoland and Damaraland can be travelled.
